Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. No, I’m not talking about money – that was someone way smarter than me.

I’m talking about compound interest; curiosity, attentiveness, captivation, concern, enthusiasm, importance, passion, significance, sympathy.

You can apply your interest to your work in a way that compounds your customers interest in your work.

It doesn’t even matter what your role at work is. If you apply your interest tomorrow, can you rewrite just one paragraph of that welcome mail, that report, that advert so that it’s more interesting to your audience? More captivating, more important, more significant?

If you apply your interest can you say the opening lines of your sales pitch, the way you answer the phone, the way you welcome a customer so that it’s more interesting to them?

You can apply your interest; your curiosity, attentiveness, sympathy; to make small things better. And then you can do it again to something else, and then again. And then… it compounds.

Compounding interest. It’s starts small, and then it snowballs. The work you put in front of your customers, your team, your boss becomes more interesting. Their interest in the work compounds as you continue to make it more interesting, more captivating, more significant.

And as the ratchet turns, the snowball grows, and before you know it, you’ve got one of the wonders of the world in your hands.
