I belong to a peer mentoring network called Civitas. (they’re great – check them out)

At one of the sessions today they said:

  • Most business struggle because the product or service is not good enough
  • Very few products and services are really loved by their customers

Consider the following statement by Jeff Bezos

If there’s one reason we have done better than of our peers in the Internet space over the last six years, it is because we have focused like a laser on customer experience, and that really does matter, I think, in any business.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon

And that poses an obvious question…

If customer experience is separating the winners from the losers, how are you going to build a product or service that’s loved by your customers if you don’t understand the principals of experience design?

Try a quick home test: Try and state the recipe for a great experience. What are the ingredients, and how do you combine them?

Now, if knowing that recipe is what’s separating the winners from the losers, if it’s the one reason that Amazon has done better than their peers, are you able to compete?

Do you know how to bake the cake?
